Slopes Vision

The project name Slopes is simply a description of the site or the sense

place.  The design embraces + capitalizes steeply sloping south facing site.

The Design Approach is predicated Genius Loci or Sense of Place and it is applied to all aspects from the design and planning of the site, building, and details.

  • slope adaptive design through an innovative building typology.

  • clusters of five units with two buildings connected by timber bridges.

  • third floor living maximizing views, daylighting + roof volumes 

  • wingwalls providing views, daylighting, and fresh air to internal bedrooms + living spaces.

  • north + south access from Three Sisters Parkway, Stewart Creek Rise.

  • Integrated with  park space on to east + west. 

Regular OAC meetings + well organized contract administration process.

Communication is key to the success of the project through the contact document and contract administration phases of the project making sure information is documented and processes are in place to execute the project efficiently + affectively.

Understanding the economies + Constraints of Wood Frame

Integrated design process in place utilizing the expertise of the consultant team in a timely and effective manner.  Integrating the architecture, structural, mechanical + electrical systems in a manner that is easy to construct + economical within the constraints of wood frame construction.

sustainable mixed-use

Bow Valley Trail , Canmore, Alberta.


This LEED platinum mixed-use building in in the heart of Bow Valley Trail is constructed to passive house standards and constructed with the owners dedication to sustainability + craftsmanship. 

  • 3 Residential  – two bedroom units used for short term accommodations.

  • 3 Commercial  – two retail spaces + one restaurant space. 


l.scott.lambert.architecture.ltd. is the architect of record + the coordinating professional.  We helped realize the project goals through building permit, construction, + occupancy.  This innovative project embodies the owners vision of developing a sustainable project to a passive house standard. 

  • entire structure is mass timber – cross laminated timber panels, glue laminated beams, + local douglas fir timbers. 

  • super insulated with wood fiber insulation – r54 roof + r46 walls. 

  • super insulated raft slab – r38 floor.

  • passive house tilt + turn windows.

  • continuous rain screen + ventilation on roof + walls.

  • air tightness maximized - clt panels used as air barrier.

  • electrical conduit sandwiched between clt + insulation.

  • photo voltaic panels on the roof – minimal electrical demand.

  • minimal hvac – hydronic radiant panels and hrv. 

  • solar blinds - south facade.

Meadows Vision

The project name Meadows is simply a description of the site or the sense

place. The site is relatively flat plateau on at the highest point in Stewart Creek Phase 3 framed by forest and mountains in all directions. The Design Approach is predicated Genius Loci or Sense of Place and it is applied to all aspects from the design and planning of the site, building, and details.

  • alpine meadow concept -  Pathway through an Alpine Meadow

  • switchback road connecting Stewart Creek Rise to the lane.

  • process of cutting in the road natural creates an ideal condition for uphill driveways and entrance to the buildings to the south while providing a natural separation to the buildings to the south.

  • balance of cut fill. Utilizing the cut to provide a one-storey step between front and back of all units allowing the garage levels to be natural built into the slope.

  • buildings reinforce the meadows concept creating the boundary or forest around the alpine meadow.

  • slope adaptive buildings act as + reduce the need for retaining walls.

  • slope style units on the east end of the site where the slope is at its greatest.

bridgeland multifamily

Calgary, Alberta.

Bridgeland is a slope adaptive development meeting the City of Calgary’s need for affordable living. – featuring 36 units catering to a variety of family types.

  • One Bedroom        45 sqm        12 units

  • Two Bedroom        65 sqm        18 units

  • Three Bedroom      95 sqm        5  units

  • Four Bedroom        1110 sqm       1   unit


The design approach implement utilize a slope adaptive strategy to all aspects of the project to maximize the development capacity while providing the best living experience for the tenants.  Slope adaptive methodology has informed all aspects of the projects development from land-use redesignation through to construction. 

  • slope adaptive design through an innovative point tower typology on a steeply sloping site – sixteen percent slope on the street + three stories of grade change from south-east to north-east.

  • exiting vegetation is maintained on the east + west property lines.

  • common amenity space at grade on multiple levels as well as landscaped rooftop.

  • building massing steps with existing grade + existing grade is maintained on all property lines. 

  • photovoltaic solar farm on the roof.

  • exiting at three different stories to exiting grade.

  • the challenges of building on a steeply slope also present opportunities of a south facing slope allowing for unobstructed views of downtown to the south, mountains to the west and long views to the east.  The south facing slope also provides for passive solar gains, outdoor amenity + daylighting for the majority of the units + the building as a whole.

  • Integrated building systems – composite steel structure incorporating hvac systems and minimizing floor to floor heights.

Project Vision

 l.scott.lambert architecture ltd. has spent the past the past 6 years working realizing Devonian Properties Vision through master planning, site designing, building design marketing, branding, and executing multiple projects in the Three Sisters Mountain Village Community in Canmore, Alberta.  As the prime consultant and coordinating professional we have developed and implemented many processes through each stage of the projects to efficiently and effectively visualize the design and execute the projects.

Master Plan

The work started from creating a vision for five individual sites through a master planning visioning process. The implementation of this vision require land-use, architectural guidelines, development permit, building permit approvals as well as marketing and visioning for website sales centre.
